When I got a new fork I just slightly tapped it so it came out the bottom of the steer tube. I am non certain if thats the proper style but information technology worked for me. Only don't hit it too hard.

merely be careful, some forks become a little narrower in the crown and you lot wouldnt be able to press information technology out the bottom

Thread a bolt into it and hammer the bolt to one side and then to the other. This damages it so you can more easily tap in out thru the bottom.

Well the starnut is used to tension your headset, and so if you already tensioned it with a starnut in place and have the stalk bolts tightened, and so y'all dont really need it. As long every bit your headset is tight and your stem bolts are tight you should be skilful. At that place is also a potential of taking a Dime sized chunk out of your body or face up if you wipeout and accept a stem impact anywhere, the footling meridian cap stops the steerer tube from becoming a giant hole-punch.

There is a tool for the job. It's basically a bolt with a handle. You thread the bolt into the start nut, then you lot slam information technology upwardly a couple times to get it out.

Stack some spacers so that the pinnacle cap is higher than the top of the steerer tube and just tighten the bolt. That'southward how I do mine. If you're going to hammer it out the bottom brand sure it will fit out the bottom of the steerer. I know that the with the new Marz forks its a existent pain.

Odd, I just did this today...

I used a seatpost and an adjustable wrench because I was too lazy to catch a hammer.

Then I just bent the tabs down so it grips when I install information technology in a new fork.
